Interchangeable Cores
A-Best Locksmith also sells and installs Best-style interchangeable cores.
This system enables any manager or business owner the freedom re-keying their own locks in a mater of seconds. If you have two entry doors, you have two locks which contain one core each. You carry a spare set of cores with you, along with matching keys. In order to change the cores, you insert a special control key, turn it, and the core extracts from the lock. After removing this core, you insert the control key into the new core and simply install it. It is that fast and easy.
Benefits of the Best-style interchangeable core system
1. You can stop calling the locksmith for regular re-keying service.
2. You can change your cores whenever you wish, especially in an emergency.
3. The cores last for years. Some of my clients have been using the same sets for many years. Be sure to use Superlube or other dry lubricant. Never use Wd-40 or other oil-based lubricants as they tend to attract and hold dust and debris.
4. The keys are usually very difficult to copy. Hardware stores do not usually carry them. They are stamped "unlawful to duplicate" or "do not copy".
5. Cores can be masterkeyed like any other lock.
6. District managers who manage several store locations can have one key to open all stores and yet, each store manager have his own key. There is no limit to how many stores you can set up in this fashion.
7. Core systems can be mailed to your store locations where your local locksmith can easily install them.
Disadvantages of the Best-style interchangeable core system
1. Keys, if not cut properly, tend to snap off in the cores. My FlexCore system has one of the thickest keys for this style of core. I have never had a key break.
2. Many locksmiths do not service this system because of its complicated nature.
3. If you drop the cores, or otherwise throw them around, the top caps can pop out, necessitating a small repair.
